Sherman Jail Custody Lead
Sherman County Jail is operated by the Sherman County Sheriff at 813 Broadway, Goodland, Kansas. It is a neighboring county facility, but the reviewed Cheyenne County sources do not establish that every local detainee, or any named detainee, is sent there. Distance is not a custody record. Before using Sherman County’s page, ask the Cheyenne County Sheriff, a court, Kansas VINE, or another authoritative source where the person was booked and housed.
This limit prevents a common error. A Cheyenne County arrest may involve a contracted law-enforcement response, yet the arresting agency and the jail custodian can differ. The sending office should be able to name the receiving facility or provide an exit destination. Without that link, a Sherman County name match may concern another arrest or another person.
Read Sherman Custody Records
The official Sherman County inmate page is a current roster. Research observed a photograph, name, arrest date, charges, arresting agency, and bond. Those fields help identify someone who is still listed and connect the booking to an agency. They do not form a recently released tab.
| Roster field | Proper reading |
|---|---|
| Photograph and name | Identity clues for the current listing, not proof of guilt. |
| Date arrested | The start of that custody episode, not a release date. |
| Charges | Allegations associated with the listing, not the final court result. |
| Arresting agency | The agency connected to the arrest, which may differ from the custodian. |
| Bond | Published bond information, not proof that bond was posted or release occurred. |
An absent name does not disclose the cause. The person could have been released, transferred, listed under a different spelling, removed after the roster changed, or never held there. The roster has no historical-release tab or published retention window.
Confirm Sherman Jail Release
Once custody is established, contact the Sherman County Sheriff at 785-890-4800. Provide the full name, birth date if needed, approximate arrest date, and any booking or case number. Ask for the final custody event rather than asking only whether the person is there now.
- Confirm that Sherman County booked and held the correct person.
- Ask for the exit date and time from that booking.
- Request the release type or legal authority shown in the record.
- Ask whether the person entered the community or went to a receiving agency.
- Obtain the booking/release record when a documented answer is needed.
A bond release, recognizance, court order, time served, or sentence completion can end confinement at Sherman County. A transfer does not. If the destination is KDOC, another jail, USMS, or ICE, continue with that system. The Cheyenne County release search maps those separate channels without treating one roster as universal.
Sherman Release Record Fields
A focused request should seek an existing record, not ask staff to create a narrative. Identify the booking by name and date. Request the booking number, booking and release timestamps, release type or authority, and destination or receiving agency. If the photograph is relevant to matching the booking, request that specific image and accept lawful redactions or exemptions.
The court file can supply the bond order, sentence, dismissal, revocation, or other legal authority, but the jail record remains stronger for the physical exit time. Use both when the exact event matters. A pending charge may remain after release, and a court dismissal does not itself show when jail staff completed the exit process.
Cheyenne and Sherman Boundaries
Keep the county roles clear. Cheyenne County’s Sheriff is the starting point for a local arrest and can identify the last local custody event or receiving agency. Sherman County becomes the records source only for time actually spent in its jail. If both agencies have records, the Cheyenne exit may document transfer to Sherman, while the Sherman intake and later exit document what happened next.
Do not call Sherman County’s page a Cheyenne County release feed. It offers no 24-hour or 72-hour release view. It also should not be replaced with a Nebraska Cheyenne County roster, another frequent wrong-state search result. Put Kansas, Goodland, and the 785 telephone area code beside the instructions to keep the jurisdiction plain.
Sherman Transfer to State Custody
A person sentenced to the custody of the Kansas Secretary of Corrections may leave Sherman County Jail for KDOC. That is a transfer out of county confinement, not release into the community. Search KASPER after state intake using the KDOC number when known. Confirm name, birth details, conviction county, case number, and photograph before relying on the record.
KASPER can show facility movements, supervision status, the parole office, and an Anticipated Release Date. The anticipated date is a projection that can change. A later parole or postrelease status means prison confinement ended but supervision continues. “Discharged” addresses the end of the KDOC sentence obligation. County jail release terms should not be substituted for these state statuses.
Sherman Release to ICE
A jail can record its own custody as released when ICE takes custody at the exit. When the destination field identifies ICE, label the event a transfer until federal information supports community release. Use the Online Detainee Locator by A-number and country of birth, or exact biographical details. A recent transfer may not appear at once.
No source reviewed establishes Sherman County Jail as the routine destination for Cheyenne County detainees or identifies a Cheyenne County ICE facility. The correct sequence remains evidence based: confirm the actual jail, get its exit destination, and follow the named receiver. A no-result in one dynamic search never settles every later custody event.
Assess Sherman Release Results
Record the date and time of every roster check. Preserve the site’s exact language. Match at least two identifiers, especially with a common name. A photograph can help, but it may be old and does not establish the outcome of the current case. If a court docket and jail answer conflict, ask the custodian to reconcile the booking and case numbers.
Release also does not mean the case ended. Bond conditions, probation, parole, postrelease supervision, or another hold can remain. Conversely, a charge label is not a conviction. The narrow task is to confirm the person’s custody event, identify where custody went next, and obtain the record from the office that created it.
Sherman Jail Photo Context
The official current roster displays a photograph while a person is listed. That image belongs to Sherman County’s custody episode and should not be labeled a Cheyenne County booking photo. Once a name leaves the live page, no official Sherman historical-photo archive was found in the research. Request the image tied to the known booking if identity verification requires it.
A photo alone says nothing about release, disposition, or present location. Pair it with the booking number, arrest date, and final custody event. Kansas open-records law permits agencies to apply lawful exemptions and redactions. Ask the custodian to identify the basis if an image is withheld, and do not use a stale copy to imply present confinement.
Sherman Court Record Check
The court connected to the booking can explain bond, sentence, probation, dismissal, or a later revocation. Search the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal by exact case number when known. Otherwise narrow a name result by county, criminal case type, and dates. Read the filed order, not just the charge or hearing label.
The docket still does not replace the jail’s physical exit time. An order can precede processing, transport, or another hold. Sealed and expunged matters are excluded from public access, and older documents may require courthouse-terminal or clerk access. A missing online filing is a reason to ask the court, not proof of release.
Sherman Release Timing Limits
No official recent-release cadence, archive retention period, or release-processing timetable was found for Sherman County Jail. Do not promise that the live roster changes at a fixed interval or that a weekend exit will appear by a certain hour. Record when the page was checked, then call the Sheriff for the specific booking. A narrowly dated record request is the documentary fallback when the current page and telephone answer do not resolve the event.
Keep the request tied to the confirmed booking. Ask whether a delay reflects processing, transport, a court order, or another agency’s hold. If staff cannot provide a telephone answer, request the existing exit and destination fields in writing. That preserves the difference between a roster update and the underlying custody event.
