Cheyenne County Released Inmates
“Released” describes the end of one agency’s custody, not one universal outcome. The Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office is the local custody-record contact, but its current site does not identify an operating jail at the courthouse address. It publishes no inmate roster, release list, archive, or booking-photo gallery. For a local arrest, ask where the person was physically held and what the last custody event was.
That event may be bond, recognizance, a court order, time served, sentence completion, transfer, or pickup on another hold. A transfer to Sherman County, KDOC, the U.S. Marshals, or ICE ends Cheyenne County custody but does not place the person in the community. The sending record’s destination field determines the next search.
- Time served
- The court has credited and satisfied the custody part of a sentence.
- Parole
- Conditional community release from an eligible state prison sentence.
- Probation
- A court-ordered community status, usually instead of a prison term.
- Discharge
- The end of the full sentence or supervision obligation.
- Detainer
- A basis for another authority to assume or continue custody.
Cheyenne County Release Types
The release label controls what the record proves and where the person may appear next. A charge can remain pending after bond. Dismissal describes the case, while the jail exit remains a separate event. Death ends custody but must never be called an ordinary release.
| Exit type | Meaning | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | Leaves jail while the case may continue | Court bond order and Sheriff release record |
| Time served or completion | Custody portion has ended | Judgment and physical exit record |
| Probation | Court supervision applies | Cheyenne County docket and supervising office |
| Parole or postrelease | Leaves state prison under KDOC supervision | KASPER and KDOC records |
| Transfer | Custody continues with another agency | Receiving agency intake or locator |
| Dismissal or acquittal | Case outcome changed | Filed court disposition plus jail exit |
Cheyenne County Release Record Fields
A release record is linked to a booking. Ask for existing fields rather than a new narrative. The Sheriff may redact exempt content, but a narrow request helps separate the public custody event from protected investigation or personal information.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Booked name and aliases | The identity recorded for that event |
| Booking number | The agency’s event identifier |
| Arresting agency and booking time | Who initiated custody and when intake occurred |
| Charges and holds at booking | The recorded bases for custody at intake |
| Release date and time | When that custodian’s control ended |
| Release authority or type | Bond, court order, completion, transfer, or another basis |
| Destination agency | Who received the person after a transfer |
| Booking photograph | The image tied to that intake, subject to access limits |
A court order can explain the legal authority but may precede physical release. Use the court document and jail exit record together when the exact sequence matters. KASPER provides a different state record for people sentenced to KDOC.
Identity checks are part of the record review. Compare the booked name, date of birth only when lawfully available and needed, booking number, arresting agency, and court case. Similar names can produce a false match. Keep the release type in the agency’s own words, especially when the record says transfer, detainer pickup, parole, or discharge. Replacing a precise label with the broad word “released” can hide continued custody or supervision.
Request Cheyenne County Release Records
Begin with the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, 212 E. Washington, P.O. Box 613, St. Francis, KS 67756-0613, at 785-332-8880. No dedicated Sheriff request form or fee schedule is published. The county clerk page has an open-records form for general routing, but the request should first go to the likely holder.
- Identify the full name, approximate booking date, arresting agency, and case or booking number when known.
- Ask for the existing booking and release record, including the exit date, exit type, authority, destination, and photograph.
- Provide a birth date only when needed to distinguish people, and request electronic delivery.
- Ask for an itemized fee estimate before costs are incurred and for redaction instead of withholding the public remainder.
- If another county held the person, redirect the request there while retaining Cheyenne County’s transfer record.

KORA permits reasonable fees and advance payment. If immediate access is not granted, K.S.A. 45-218 requires a detailed explanation for the delay within three business days. That is a response deadline, not a fixed production deadline.
Cheyenne County Release Record Law
K.S.A. 45-215 through 45-223 is the Kansas Open Records Act. It favors access unless a law closes the record. K.S.A. 45-217 defines public and criminal-investigation records, K.S.A. 45-218 covers access and response, K.S.A. 45-219 addresses fees, and K.S.A. 45-221 lists withholding grounds.
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, medical, investigative, and legally protected identity material may not be public. If a record is missing, restriction is a possibility, not a conclusion. The Kansas Judicial Branch says expunged and sealed matters are unavailable through its public channels. Do not work around that limit with cached copies.
Cheyenne County Discharge and Expungement
Under K.S.A. 21-6614, several Kansas waiting periods run from satisfaction of the sentence or diversion, or discharge from probation, community corrections, parole, postrelease supervision, conditional release, or a suspended sentence. The statute generally uses three years for subsection (a) matters and five years for specified subsection (c) categories, with exclusions and special rules.
The supervision-discharge date may therefore matter more than the day someone left jail or prison. An expungement order generally restricts disclosure of connected arrest, conviction, diversion, and incarceration records. Eligibility is fact-specific. A vanished KASPER or court entry does not by itself prove expungement because identity, search, coverage, reversal, and clemency can also affect publication.
Search Cheyenne County Released Inmates
The strongest search follows custody from one agency to the next. A live roster is designed for current custody. A released person normally drops off it, so absence alone cannot distinguish release, transfer, suppression, or a spelling mismatch.
- Call the Sheriff with the full name and birth date when needed. Ask where the person was held and for the last custody event.
- Search Kansas VINE for a participating county-jail record, then confirm any alert with the jail.
- If the person entered KDOC, search KASPER by KDOC number or match the name, case, conviction county, photograph, and physical details.
- Search Kansas eCourt for the bond, judgment, probation, revocation, dismissal, or sentencing order.
- For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP or ICE locator and the appropriate court or agency record.
- Request the booking and release sheet when online systems do not resolve the exit type.
The Cheyenne County 24-hour release check gives the focused same-day fallback, since no local feed exists. Record the date and exact label from each dynamic search. When sources conflict, ask the custodian to reconcile them.
Cheyenne County KDOC Offender Search
KASPER covers people sentenced to the Kansas Secretary of Corrections since 1980 who are incarcerated, under post-incarceration supervision, or discharged, subject to exclusions and removals. It is not a complete Cheyenne County arrest database. A person who bonded out without a KDOC sentence may never appear.
| Search field | Use |
|---|---|
| KDOC number | Best unique match when known |
| Name and alias | Broad match that needs identity checks |
| Conviction county and case | Connects the record to Cheyenne County court |
| Facility and movements | Shows state custody history |
| Parole or community location | Narrows supervision records |
| Supervision type | May show inmate, parole, absconder, community corrections, or discharged |
Read current status, supervision level, movements, and “Anticipated Release Date” separately. A prospective date can change with credits and computation. KDOC says KASPER updates daily except weekends and warns that post-April 2021 community-corrections events have a display limit.
View KDOC’s KASPER scope and field explanation.
The official locating material shows why KASPER is the state-prison path and why the Sheriff remains the source for a county-only release.
When the anticipated date or movements do not reconcile, contact the KDOC Sentence Computation Unit at 785-296-3317 with the KDOC number. A sentencing journal entry, jail credit, consecutive term, disciplinary credit loss or restoration, program credit, parole action, or revocation may explain the calculation. Ask which public date field is being explained rather than requesting confidential case-management details.
Cheyenne County Release Court Search
Cheyenne County belongs to Kansas’s seven-county 15th Judicial District. Use the Kansas District Court Public Access Portal, then narrow by Cheyenne County, criminal case type, dates, or case number. Search engines also surface a Colorado 15th Judicial District Community Corrections page for a different Cheyenne County. Kansas records should use kscourts.gov and St. Francis court details.
Look for bond and appearance orders, journal entries, sentences, probation orders, jail-credit findings, revocations, dismissals, acquittals, or mandates. The court record explains authority, while the custodian supplies the actual exit time. Some filed images are unavailable online and require the courthouse terminal or clerk.
Does a dismissal prove the release time? No. It may end the prosecution, but the physical exit remains a separate jail-management event.
Cheyenne County Release Notifications
Kansas VINE offers free, confidential, voluntary county-jail status searching and notifications by web, phone, and mobile options. The toll-free line is 1-866-574-8463. Search Kansas by name or offered identifier, compare facility and status, and register from a matched in-custody record.
The Attorney General expressly says Kansas VINE does not include KDOC prisoners in state facilities. A no-result does not prove release because spelling, participation, timing, transfer, and scope can affect results. KDOC has a separate Victim Services notification form for people in its facilities or under KDOC supervision.
Cheyenne County Release Supervision
KDOC Community and Field Services supervises parole, conditional release, and postrelease supervision. Probation generally comes from the district court through Court Services or community corrections. Cheyenne County is assigned to Northwest Kansas Community Corrections in Hays rather than a separately advertised St. Francis parole office.
Verify a state status in KASPER and a probation status in the court order. “Absconder” is an agency allegation that required contact or location was not maintained, not proof of a new conviction. The Sheriff publishes no local warrant list. KDOC’s separate absconder search and the court docket are the official public starting points.
The Cheyenne County supervision lookup provides the regional contact and status distinctions. A released person may remain subject to reporting, revocation, or a later discharge order.
Cheyenne County Release Reentry Contacts
Cheyenne County’s services directory lists the county food pantry, health department, hospital and clinic, and mental-health contacts. These are purpose-neutral community resources, not promises of formal reentry eligibility or guaranteed service. Confirm intake, hours, and availability directly.
The regional supervision office and local service providers perform different roles. A community contact may help with a practical need, while only the court or supervision agency can explain mandatory terms. Do not assume that a listed service coordinates with a jail or knows a release date.
Getting Home After Cheyenne Release
Cheyenne County has demand-response public transportation rather than a fixed-route jail shuttle. The official directory asks riders to call 785-772-1053, preferably at least 24 hours ahead. Weekday service is first-come, and a trip is not guaranteed until the scheduler confirms it.
The trip must originate in Cheyenne County. A family must first learn where the person was actually held and released. Nothing in the official source promises an unplanned jail-gate pickup or night and weekend service. If the person was released by an out-of-county custodian, confirm that location before arranging travel.
Cheyenne County Federal Release Search
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal sentenced prisoners and generally retains information from 1982 onward. Search by BOP, DCDC, FBI, or INS number, or by name and demographic fields. A release date or “not in BOP custody” does not rule out state, local, immigration, or court supervision.
Federal pretrial custody is often administered by the U.S. Marshals, which has no comparable public historical released-person locator. Use the federal docket and identified detention facility. No official source identifies a federal prison in Cheyenne County.
Cheyenne County ICE Release Transfers
A local booking record can use “release” when Cheyenne County relinquishes custody to ICE. Treat that event as a transfer until a federal record confirms community release. The ICE Online Detainee Locator accepts an A-number and country of birth or biographical details. A no-result is not proof of release because recent transfers may lag or fall outside the visible result.
No reviewed source documents an ICE contract or detention site in Cheyenne County. That does not prevent an out-of-county transfer on a detainer. Obtain the Sheriff’s destination field, then use the locator and relevant ERO office.
Cheyenne County Release Search Sources
Choose the system by custodian and event, not by convenience. Current and released records answer different questions.
| Person’s status | Best source | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Locally held now | Actual jail, Sheriff, or Kansas VINE | Current county custody |
| Released from local custody | Sheriff or holding jail release record | Exit time, type, and destination |
| KDOC inmate or supervised person | KASPER | State location, status, prospective date, or discharge |
| Federal sentenced person | BOP locator | Federal location or retained release information |
| ICE detainee | ICE locator and ERO | Current immigration detention when available |
| Legal authority or disposition | Kansas eCourt | Filed order, not the door-out time |
Cheyenne County Search No-Results
No official match is not a final answer. Recheck spelling, aliases, birth date, state, city, and agency. Confirm that the arrest occurred in Cheyenne County, Kansas, rather than the Nebraska county or a Colorado search result. A county-only case may never enter KASPER, VINE can lag or have scope limits, and BOP covers a different population.
The accurate result is “not confirmed in the searched systems” with the lookup time, not a claim that the person was never arrested or was certainly released. Follow with the Sheriff’s last-custody-event response and a focused records request. If a public file is absent because it is sealed or expunged, respect that restriction.
Cheyenne County Release Facilities
The local Sheriff is the first custody-record contact, but its courthouse address is not established as an operating jail. Sherman County Jail is only a conditional receiving-facility lead. Use its current roster only after an official source identifies it as custodian. KDOC facilities, BOP institutions, and ICE custody each require their own state or federal locator.
- Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office: confirms the last local custody event and record holder.
- Sherman County Jail: a possible neighboring custodian, never an assumed one.
- Kansas Department of Corrections correctional facilities: state sentences, supervision, and discharge through KASPER.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons institutions: federal sentenced custody and retained release information.
- ICE detention network / ERO: civil immigration custody after a documented transfer.
